Geoffrey Jones is a school counselor at Kalakaua Middle School and serves as the Counseling Department Head. In addition to providing outstanding services to his students and serving as school level lead on multiple committees, he founded the Kalihi Interagency Council when he saw the need to provide coordinated community services to the students in Kalihi.
School Counselor Advocate of the Year: Ann Mahi
As Complex Area Superintendent for Nanakuli-Waianae complex area, Ann Mahi advocated for the professional development, support and resources necessary for counselors in her complex area to build a comprehensive school counseling program within each school. She worked to ensure that complex counselors were given the necessary time away from daily duties to collaborate, build, and implement a comprehensive school-counseling program within their schools to ultimately align elementary, intermediate and high school guidance curriculums within the complex. She strongly believes that counselors are the “heartbeat” of the school and play a vital role as student advocates and school level leaders.
